POSITIONS
Positions
In cheerleading, there are five position that can be used toperform a stunt. Not all of them are required, most of the time a stunt group is made of 4 people. The bases are in front next to each other, then you have the flyer behind them in the middle and the back spot behind the flyer.
Flyer
The first person is called the flyer, this person is the one who is on top of the stunts.
Stunting : As a flyer, you should always stay tight, stand up as fast as possible and have your legs straight when stunting. Also try to not look down while stunting, it will help to keep your balance and stay concentred to not fall.
Basket Toss : When performing a basket toss you need to "jump" into the hands of your bases and keep your legs a little bit bend but not too much and you have to let the bases throw you in the air, while flying you need stay tight all the time and pike your leg at the end to fall in a cradle position.
Bases
The second and third person are the bases, these persons are the ones who lift the flyer in the air and make sure he/she doesn't fall.
Stunting : The bases need to hold the flyer's foot with one hand on the heel and the other one on the toe. When doing a two-legged stunts, the two bases need to hold the foot of the flyer the way it is mention earlier, when it is a one-legged stunts there is the main base and the side base. The main base doesn't change the way he/she held the foot, the side base hold the middle and the top portions of the flyer's foot. While stunting the bases need to use their legs and not their back when lifting the flyer into the air, also when performing a cradle, bases catch the flyer's back and legs.
Basket Toss : The bases grab their own wrist first and then the other base wrist with the other hand. The bases will have to get into squat position and lock their arms, once the flyer is one the hands, bases will dip together and drive through as fast as they can, they will then catch the flyer in a cradle postion.
Back Spot
The fourth person is the back spot, this person is the one who makes sure that the flyer doesn't fall and help the bases during the stunt.
Sunting : While stunting the back spot hold the ankles of the flyer all of the time and pull them up to take off some weight for the bases. When performing a cradle the back spot will catch the flyer under the arms or his/her back.
Basket Toss : The back spot helps the flyer to get into the hands of the bases then put his hands under the bases one and help them to throw the flyer in the air. He/she will then catch the flyer under the arms or his/her back.
Front Spot
The fifth person is the front spot, this person is optional and only used to have an extra help while lifting the flyer.
Stunting : Most of the time they hold the wrist of the bases and pull up to get off some weight just like the back spot. When performing a cradle the front spot will catch the feet of the flyer.
Basket Toss : The front spot will put his hand under the bases one as well and help throwing the flyer in the air.
